Sourcing Parts
Sourcing Laptop Parts
One of the questions I am often asked is “where are the best places to find laptop parts?” And my answer is usually, “it depends where you are located”.
You may have experience of working on regular PCs, and you find it so easy to find and replace what you need, when you need it, as everything is pretty standard stuff, with the odd exception, such as small form power supplies. But most of the time, when you need a part in a hurry, you can get it.
A typical selection of parts and aids you will often need are as follows:
- RAM
- Hard Drives
- DC Jacks
- Source for batteries & power adapters.
- Screens
- Inverters
- Software
- Sets of plastics.
- Keyboards
It is a good idea to source your supplies before you start taking in units for repair, so let’s have a look at your options.
- Ebay: First of all, it is a good idea to have a look through Ebay, most of the parts you will probably need will be in there in one way or another.
If you see any laptops available for Spares/Repair, if it is cheap enough, it could be worth its weight in gold, even if you don’t use everything on it, just put what you don’t need back in Ebay, and get some money back, often more than you paid for the complete unit.
Just make sure you have a good read through the listing, just in case the seller has butchered it before he/she has listed it.
- USA/Canada - Here are some companies worth having a look at:
- LCDs4LESS For all your laptop LCD requirements
- MEMORY SUPPLIERS CRUCIALFor RAM upgrades
- PC HUB A wide range of spares available, including laptop keyboards, batteries, screens, inverters, hinges, adapters, processors and much more..
- IMPACT Here you can pick up motherboards at very good prices, as well as DC Jacks, Keyboards,
UK – If you are in the UK, once again, check out the Ebay UK SiteThe US one is also worth a look if you don’t see what you are looking for, most of the US suppliers offer excellent shipping options to the UK and Europe. Here are a few from the UK: - CLONES UK They can supply a range of laptop parts from a single screw to a complete laptop. And if you don’t see what you are looking for, just give them a call, they are very helpful and friendly.
- LAPTOP BITS Another good supplier, covering a large range of spares for lots of different manufacturers.
These are only some of the suppliers you might want to bookmark and familiarise yourself with their sites and what they have available.
Buyers of the Laptop Repair Course 2010, have sections of the course which cover lists of various suppliers, and a lot of the members on their forum chip in with some that might not be in the members resource area of the course.
Do your homework and find all your sources for parts, accessories and tools, your business will come on in leaps and bounds quicker than you think if you are fully prepared.
